A Heartfelt Thank You to Investors Bank

The Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County cannot thank enough the fine and caring people at Investors Bank who have been one of our society’s strongest supporters over the past few years. Investor’s Bank continued donations to our cause has allowed us to assist at need members of our community handle the legal situations that may otherwise crush them. We have included below the press releases for 2019 and 2020 memorializing these amazing contributions.

2020

“The Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County awarded $2,500 from Investors Foundation during its’ 70th year of service to the community”

OCEAN TOWNSHIP- The Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County received a $2,500 grant from Investors Foundation this July to support the Society’s mission to act as a conduit between the indigent residents of Monmouth County and Pro Bono attorneys willing to accept the assignment.

This $2,500 grant was presented to Thomas Ehrlich, Esq., President of the Legal Aid Society and Valerie Hemhauser, Esq., Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society by Christopher M. Curcia Investors Bank Branch Manager in Red Bank.

The clients served by the Legal Aid Society are both indigent and handicapped and are at the bottom rung of the economic ladder.  They come to the Legal Aid Society to redress their problems in a court of competent jurisdiction and, if deemed eligible pursuant to the Society’s guidelines, their case is referred to a Monmouth County attorney selected specifically to handle the case in question.  In 2019, the Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County interfaced with better than 1,800 Monmouth County residents. 

The receipt of this generous $2,500 grant from Investors Foundation cannot be understated.  This funding is desperately needed so that the Society may continue to provide vital representation to low income residents of Monmouth County, especially during this unprecedented time and the challenges faced during the Covid 19 pandemic crisis this year. 

The Legal Aid Society was established in 1950 as a not for profit organization by local Monmouth County attorneys together with community leaders.  The Society provides attorneys for a wide range of civil legal needs such as bankruptcy, custody, divorce, child support, visitation, civil actions, tenancy matters, collections and contracts.  These pro bono attorneys are members of the Monmouth Bar Association who generously donate their time and expertise.

The goal of the Legal Aid Society for 2020 and beyond remains the same as in prior years.  That is, to provide legal advice and appropriate pro bono representation to those in need.  The Legal Aid Society has implemented this mission successfully for the past seventy (70) years and is hopeful to continue to do so with continued support and partnership from the community. This $5,000 grant was presented to Mark T. Apostolou, Jr., Esq., President of the Legal Aid Society and Valerie Hemhauser, Esq., Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society, by Peter Leyman, Investors Bank Vice President Professional Services and Christopher M. Curcia Investors Bank Branch Manager.

The clients, both indigent and handicapped, are at the bottom rung of the economic ladder.  They come to the Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County to redress their problems in a court of competent jurisdiction. If deemed eligible pursuant to the Society’s guidelines, their case is referred to a Monmouth County attorney selected specifically to handle the case in question.  In 2018, the Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County interfaced with better than 1,700 Monmouth County residents.  It is projected that the need for these services will increase for the year ending 2019.
