The Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County awarded $5,000 from Investors Foundation

OCEAN TOWNSHIP- The Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County received a $5,000 grant from Investors Foundation to support the Society’s mission to act as a conduit between the indigent residents of Monmouth County and Pro Bono attorneys willing to accept the assignment.

This $5,000 grant was presented to Mark T. Apostolou, Jr., Esq., President of the Legal Aid Society and Valerie Hemhauser, Esq., Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society, by John W. Celmer, Investors Bank Vice President Professional Services and by Peter Leyman, Investors Bank Vice President Professional Services.

The clients, both indigent and handicapped, are at the bottom rung of the economic ladder.  They come to the Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County to redress their problems in a court of competent jurisdiction and, if deemed eligible pursuant to the Society’s guidelines, their case is referred to a Monmouth County attorney selected specifically to handle the case in question.  In 2017, the Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County interfaced with better than 1,600 Monmouth County residents!   It is projected that the need for our services will upwardly increase even more so for the year ending 2018.

The receipt of this generous $5,000 grant from Investors Foundation cannot be understated.  This funding is needed so that the Society may provide vital representation to the indigent residents of Monmouth County.

The Legal Aid Society was established in 1952 as a not for profit organization, by local Monmouth County attorneys, together with community leaders, to provide pro bono legal services to the indigent and handicapped residents of Monmouth County.   The Society provides pro bono attorneys for a wide range of civil legal needs such as bankruptcy, custody, divorce, child support, visitation, civil actions, tenancy matters, collections and contracts.  These pro bono attorneys are members of the Monmouth Bar Association who generously donate their time and expertise.

The goal of the Legal Aid Society for 2018 remains the same as in prior years.  That is, to provide legal advice and appropriate pro bono representation to indigent Monmouth County      residents who meet our eligibility guidelines.  The Legal Aid Society has implemented this mission successfully for the past sixty six (66) years and hopes to continue to do so with continued support from our community.
